About the Role: The City of Pasadena is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Safety & Risk Coordinator to ensure the safety and well-being of our City employees. This role will involve coordinating and administering safety programs, managing workers' compensation and insurance claims, and ensuring compliance with safety standards across the organization. The ideal candidate will have a passion for occupational health and safety, strong communication skills, and a proven track record in risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs to ensure compliance with recognized safety standards.
- Coordinate safety training and ensure employees are equipped with the knowledge to perform their jobs safely.
- Work with department heads to correct unsafe conditions and improve work practices.
- Administer workers' compensation claims, ensuring timely processing and monitoring of injured employees' return-to-work needs.
- Manage the City's drug and alcohol testing programs (DOT and non-DOT) and act as a Designated Employer Representative (DER).
- Serve as the chair for the Fleet Safety Committee, ensuring all corrective actions are implemented.
- Monitor insurance claims and manage the annual insurance re-rate packet for the City's auto schedule.
- Provide support in emergencies by serving as "essential personnel" during Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activation.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections, recommending corrective actions as needed.
- Administer employee vaccination programs and oversee the City's CDL incentive program.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Management, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in safety and workers' compensation management.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid Texas Driver's License. Must complete DOT Designated Employer Representative (DER) training within 90 days of employment.
- Knowledge & Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of safety laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Experience managing safety programs and workers' compensation claims.
- Ability to train employees on safety practices and compliance.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across departments and with external vendors.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and capable of using various safety-related tools and software.

- From 21 to less than 26 years of service - five weeks of vacation per year.
- From 26 years of service and up - six weeks of vacation per year.
