Duties: The Recreation Attendant I assists with the planning, implementation and supervision of recreational programs, activities and special events at Madison Jobe Senior Center and the Heritage Museum. The Recreation Attendant I will also be responsible for smaller departmental events, including planning, implementing and evaluating such events. This position has no direct employee supervision responsibilities. Greets incoming visitors/participants with a welcoming smile and a verbal hello. Provides hospitality, staff support and communication. Assists in planning and implementation of programs by engaging seniors in recreational activities, including but not limited to board and table games, outdoor and indoor recreation, field trips and arts and crafts. Plans for and prepares refreshments at the center for daily activities, special events and programs. Plans for and prepares decorations for activities, programs, and special events. Coordinates with Senior Center staff to set up areas for activities and ensure areas are clean and safe for programs. Drives City vehicles to transport participants to and from events or for trips and tours. May coordinate and transport seniors to events and/ or escort seniors, utilizing East Harris County transportation, as directed by the Recreation Manager and/or Recreation Specialist. Works closely with Senior Center staff in coordinating and planning events for the Senior Center and the Heritage Museum throughout the year. Coordinates and assists the other Senior Center staff in signing up participants for and/or make telephone calls confirming participation in classes, programs and activities. Be knowledgeable of the purpose, mission, and goals of the Parks and Recreation Department. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: High School diploma or have obtained a GED equivalence. Valid Texas Driver's License with a good driving record. Must be able to drive city vehicles within three months of hire. Food Manager Certification within 6 months of hire. CPR/ First Aid within one year of hire. PREFERRED: Prior experience working directly with seniors is desirable. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is desired.
