Duties: The Recreation Specialist I is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising a variety of recreational, cultural, and educational programs and special events for youth and families. This position plays a key role in promoting community engagement, youth development, and positive recreation experiences for all participants. Plan, organize, and implement a wide range of recreational, cultural, and social development programs, classes, and special events. Design and lead activities that promote life skills, academic enrichment, leadership, and positive youth development. Implement mentoring programs that teach youth self-improvement, social behavior, and life-coping skills. Collaborate with local agencies, schools, neighborhood associations, and community organizations to enhance program offerings and participation. Work closely with homeowners' associations, faith-based groups, residents, educators, and local businesses to assess community needs and develop responsive programming. Engage youth in identifying community service projects, leadership opportunities, and service-learning initiatives. Maintain accurate program records, attendance logs, and evaluation data for reporting and program improvement. Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions related to recreation and youth leadership. Prepare and monitor individual center or camp budgets; track expenditures and submit purchasing requests. Maintain inventory, equipment, and supplies; ensure all resources are used safely and effectively. Coordinate and manage assigned special events from planning through implementation and evaluation. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and complies with City timekeeping and attendance policy. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation, or closely related field. A candidate with a combination of related experience and education may be considered. A valid Texas drivers license and a good driving record. Ability to obtain Food Manager Certification within 6 months. Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED within one year. PREFERRED: Previous experience working directly with children and youth ages 8-18 in a structured recreational, educational, or community-based setting.
